Hope Slayer Organizational Policies
Guild Officers:
Guild Officers are appointed by the Guild Master and Co-Leader. Whenever possible the existing officers will be consulted for input prior to new appointments.
The GM, Co-Leader and Officers are the governing body of Hope Slayer.
Officers (Rank name: Champion) have all priviledges indicative of that rank. Officer alts (Rank name: Defender) have the ability to /ginvite in order to expedite the process when the need arises.
We always hope there won't be problems among the members but the reality is - they do happen. Officers should be prepared to help members get back on track if conflicts occur. Sometimes that's as easy as saying "take it to whispers! - no arguing in guild chat!" Sometimes it might require more intervention. We hope those issues continue to be few and far between.
Officers are there to assist but are not required to devote all or the majority of their time to the in-game interests and goals of the membership. If you're an officer and you're in a position to help, by all means, do. If you have information that will help someone complete a quest or get to a desired location more quickly, by all means, share it. But if you're grouped or have plans to PvP for a bit, go for it! Officers are not expected to leave behind their own in-game enjoyment and focus solely on making the game fun for members.
By nature, Hope Slayer is a very giving group and it's been great. As we grow, there will be those who expect officers to create/provide their enjoyment and entertainment. That's not what officers are for.
Officers are expected to visit the Guild Forums regularly and to keep up with what's going on in Hope Slayer.
Guild Members:
Members (Rank - Guardian) should register at the Guild Forums and keep up with what's going on in Hope Slayer. It can be a neat place to hang out as well as an informative one.
Members requesting guild invites for friends should guide the new guild mate in learning how Hope Slayer functions. Be sure your friend knows where to find the website.
Members should have fun and enjoy being part of a great group of people.
Members should be helpful to one another - that's what Hope Slayer is all about.
Code of Conduct:
Hope Slayer is a mature, fun-loving guild. These policies are structured to provide a safe-guard against any disruption of our friendly atmosphere. Adherence to the Code of Conduct is the sign of a great guild member and is appreciated by all.
All Slayers are expected to abide by simple rules of Internet etiquette. Please don't use all caps when speaking in any channel. Please strive to keep the language in guild channels clean and mature. We stopped being impressed by profanity a LONG time ago. Keep your chat clean across the board.
No begging....not now...not EVER. This does not endear you to fellow guild mates and often puts you further from what you need.
All Slayers are expected to adhere to Blizzard's End User License Agreement and Terms of Service. We do not condone the use of cheat programs, bot programs, or the purchase of gold on line.
Tempers can flare at times. Please make every effort to settle differences in a mature, effective manner. If you can't settle it between yourselves, take it to an Officer for mediation.
The following behaviors are deemed inappropriate and should be brought to the attention of an Officer immediately:
* Name calling, fighting or harassment
* Racial or ethnic slurs
* Sexist or sexually related remarks
* Profanity
* Intentional derogatory remarks about other Slayers
* General misuse of chat
The GM and Co-leader reserve the right to summarily remove any member exhibiting abusive or profane behavior.
Communication:
Good communication is vital to the smooth operation of the guild.
Officers/Officer alts are asked to join the designated officer channel when logging into the game. This keeps them in continual contact with one another which is essential to good communication.
If, during a raid, an Officer deems it necessary to remove him/herself from Guild Chat and Officer Chat, another officer should be notified. If another officer is not available an announcement in Guild Chat should be made. Members should know why the Officers may not respond for a prolonged period.
Scheduling Guild Events and Pre-planned Instance Runs should be noted on the Guild Calendar. The Guild Master, Co-Leader and Officers have the ability to add events to the Guild Calendar. Posters should be sure to note all pertinent information - time (EST please), meeting place, level restrictions, raid size (if applicable), and links to any Guides or information that might be helpful. Members should send an in-game mail message to the event poster signifying the desire to participate.
Members may post a request for assistance with an instance or difficult quest at the Groupage forum. Please note the restrictions in the "Requesting Assistance" section below. Officers are asked to check that forum regularly and assist the Member in forming groups to complete needed quests/activities.
Recruiting :
All members should be on the lookout for friendly players to recruit. If you initiate a guild invitation for a new member make sure you stick with that new member until he/she settles in. There's nothing worse than joining a new group of people and feeling alone. Some folks are natural joiners and have no problem jumping into the mix. Others need some encouragement to become part of the group.
Make your new member your project for the following week or so. Help them to meet everyone and feel like they've found a good home for their toon. Make sure they have the website address and encourage them to register as soon as possible. Explain the importance of keeping up on guild business, by visiting the website regularly.
Your new recruit should be your personal responsibility until they are completely merged into the guild. This approach will ensure that new recruits feel comfortable and will remain active members.
Invitations to Join Hope Slayer:
The Guild Master, Co-Leader, Champions and Defenders have the ability to extend invitations to join Hope Slayer.
Any officer approached randomly to extend a guild invitation to a character unfamiliar to the guild membership should spend some time talking with the person. Ask what kind of guild he/she is looking for, explain what kind of guild we are, and then issue the invitation if appropriate. Requests by newly guilded Slayers for invitations to their friends should be treated in the same manner.
Requests by seasoned guild mates for invites to their friends do not require extensive communication on the part of the officer beyond extending a warm welcome once the toon is guilded.
The officer who extends the invitation should be sure to make some type of identifying note next to a newly guilded player's name. "Welcome!" would do until that person is promoted from New Slayer status.
In the case of newly guilded alts, the Officer issuing the invitation should make a public note (Herr's alt) beside that character's name for easy identification.
New Slayers:
Newly guilded characters are ranked "New Slayers." Information for New Slayers is available in the WoW General forum in the "Welcome New Slayer!" thread. All New Slayers should register here at the website as soon as possible to be able to view the Member forums and read this thread.
There is a get-acquainted period of two weeks during which the guild and new character determine if Hope Slayer is a "good fit." If, after this two week period all parties are in agreement, the New Slayer is moved into the Guardian rank and provided a guild tabard.
New Slayer alts will be considered after the New Slayer is moved to full membership - Guardian rank.
Requesting Assistance:
Our in-game experiences and entertainment are our own responsibility. However there are times when some assistance is needed.
Lower level characters must understand that they are expected to level, quest and run instances with characters in their own level range. If there are guild characters in the same level range on line, it's appropriate to ask for assistance. A well-phrased question in guild chat "any alts/toons need a VC run this afternoon?" is also appropriate. Some members might welcome the chance to log to an alt and come with you. For the more difficult/involved situations it's appropriate to post a request for assistance at the "Groupage" forum and notify an officer that you've done so. Be sure to note: how many people you need, specific classes you need (if any) and suggest a time/date that would be good for you.
Also, the LFG channel is your friend. Use it. And be patient. Whether you receive help from fellow guild members or in a PUG (pick up group) it may not happen instantly.
Members are expected to learn content and function as part of the team. This can't happen if you are in the habit of being "run through" instances and the more difficult quests. You will not learn how to play your character effectively and build your talents wisely if you don't strike out on your own and DO IT.
By the time your character is old enough to raid Strat, Scholo, DM, BRS etc with us, we want you to be able to play your character to the best advantage. You can't do that if you come up through the ranks having things handed to you. Strategy is every bit as important as level. Efficiency is every bit as important as gear. Research quests and instances. Know the objectives, the layout and the mobs of the encounters. There are many good links in the FAVORITE LINKS thread. Put forth the effort to research as you level. Those who put forth no effort from 1-60 seldom show up for raids prepared to be a functional part of the team. THAT causes wipes, hard feelings and can keep you from raiding with the Guild.
Decision Making:
Some decisions will be made by the Co-leaders. Some will be made by the Officers. And some will be presented to the membership for a vote. Every effort will be made to keep members informed of important issues before, during and after they occur. Issues for discussion and/or voting will be posted on the forums. It's the officers' responsibility to keep the message board information up to date and the membership's responsibility to know what's been posted .
